Business Journals reported that Steel Dynamics Inc plans to expand its Flat Roll Division operations in Jeffersonville.

According to a news release from One Southern Indiana, the chamber of commerce and economic development organization for Clark and Floyd counties, officials from Steel Dynamics were expected to appear before the Jeffersonville City Council to seek tax abatement for the project.

It is unclear how much the company plans to invest in Jeffersonville or how many jobs the expansion will create.

Steel Dynamics officials could not immediately be reached for comment Wednesday.

Steel Dynamics is one of the largest steel producers and metal recyclers in the United States. The company makes various types of steel products, including engineered bars, wide flange beams, rails and flat rolled steel.

The company's plants in Jeffersonville and Butler make pickled, cold rolled, galvanized, and painted flat rolled steel.
