Japanese steel export in June 2010 up by 34pct YoY

According to the Japan Iron & Steel Federation, Japan's export shipments of iron and steel products totaled 3,864,000 tonnes in June 2010, up by 34.4% YoY also up by 7.3% MoM, when their values totaled USD 4,020.15 million, up by 53.5%, translating into JPY 367.1 billion, up by 45.6%.

Of the total export shipments, ordinary steel products accounted for 2,574,000 tonnes, up by 47.2% YoY. Of the ordinary steel products exported, HR coils made up 866,000 tonnes, up by 54.6% YoY; galvanized sheets 506,000 tonnes, up by a factor of 2.1; CR coils 338,000 tonnes, up by 38.2% YoY; heavy plates 328,000 tonnes, up by 24.4% YoY; electrical sheets 79,000 tonnes, up by 13.1% YoY; welded and butt welded pipes 70,000 tonnes, up by 56.9% YoY; shapes 69,000 tonnes, up by 19.3% YoY; wire rods 51,000 tonnes, up by 16.9% YoY; seamless pipes 51,000 tonnes, up by 40.4% YoY and bars 35,000 tonnes, down by 16.6% YoY.

In the breakdown of the total export shipments by main destinations, South Korea took 977,000 tonnes, up by 25.7% YoY; China 696,000 tonnes, up by 11% YoY; Thailand 445,000 tonnes, up by a factor of 2.6; Taiwan 406,000 tonnes, up by 55.1% YoY and the USA 122,000 tonnes, up by 27% YoY.
